Velocity X Photochromic Lenses
Fast Dark. Fast Clear.
NEW Velocity X Photochromic lenses are specially designed to be fast-reacting in any light condition
New, improved, faster dye compounds (each less than 0.3 mm in diameter) need very little light energy to react.
The new speed-optimized carrier matrix gives the molecules more freedom to quickly fold or unfold. Together, they deliver the toughness and durability expected from a premium lens material.
The New Benchmark for Photochromic Lenses
Velocity X is a complete photochromic lens portfolio uniquely designed to satisfy consumers’ need for speed-to-clear, blue light, and UV protection.
This re-engineered photochromic system delivers ground-breaking transition speeds, improved darkness, superior protection, and attractive colors.
Because of the Blue Light Protector base lens material, Velocity X provides excellent blue light protection in any environment.
Darkness at High Temperatures
Compared to the previous generation, Velocity X photokinetic dye compounds have equal or improved activation performance when temperatures rise.
The clarity/darkness of photochromic dyes is determined by the equilibrium between UV radiation and temperature. UV transforms the dyes into their activated state, while heat deactivates them.
In the original generation of Velocity, only the Extra Grey was designed with sunglass level darkness at hotter temperatures. In Velocity X, the regular Grey and the regular Brown colors also remain dark at these higher temperatures.
Perhaps most notable is the increase in darkness in Velocity X Grey compared to the previous generation of grey. At 23°C (73°F) it is up to 26% darker, and even at 35°C (95°F) it is over 29% darker.
Groundbreaking Reaction Speeds
Once again, Velocity X sets the industry standard for photochromic performance and reaction speeds. Velocity X is fast-to-clear and fast-to-dark.
Velocity X was externally tested by a leading lenses manufacturer and photochromic measurements comply with ISO 8980-3. Fade-back speeds reported are based on an 80%T (transmittance) threshold at 23°C (95°F).
Velocity X Grey is up to 1.5 times faster to clear than the same well-known brand´s latest generation grey [2] while being 11% darker when activated. [3]
Velocity X Brown is up to 2 times faster to clear than a well-known brands latest generation brown[4] while it is up to 10% faster than the recent upgrade of Velocity Brown with a similar warm color hue.
A Unique Level of Blue Light Protection
Velocity X blocks 30% more potentially harmful blue light indoors compared to a well-known photochromic brand’s latest generation. This is due to the use of blue light blocking base material.[3]
The blue light blocking lens materials block up to 40% of potentially harmful blue light. In combination with the Velocity X photochromic coating, the blue light blocking properties of the clear lens rise up to 50% in the clear state.[5]
The sun emits UV and blue light, especially in the high-energy visible light (HEV) range. Velocity X provides its highest blue light protection when outdoors and fully activated. When fully activated outdoors, the lens blocks up to 95% of blue light.[6]
